My Maternity Style & Advice

One of my favorite parts of being pregnant has been styling the bump! Now that I am officially in the third trimester, it is become more and more challenging!

When I first started showing, I immediately started thinking about my own maternity style and how that could mesh with what I already was sharing. Since I share my daily outfits over on Instagram, it was important to me to make sure that throughout my pregnancy I was sharing outfits that were non-maternity so that anyone who follows along could still shop my looks!

I am now 28 weeks and the only maternity items I have purchased have been some t-shirts, tanks, one pair of leggings and two pairs of jean shorts. I really wanted to try and find non-maternity clothes in the hopes of being able to wear them postpartum as well. Through this process there has been a lot that has not worked, but at this point I have a pretty good idea now of what is or is not going to work!

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ve seen that I have been sharing a lot of dresses. Dresses have been the most comfortable and the best pieces to buy where I can either just go up a size or find one that is more loose fitting. Again, most everything I’ve purchased recently will be able to be worn after the baby as well! One perk of having a Summer baby is that you don’t have to bundle up with a bump! If I am ever pregnant and showing during the colder months, I’ll be curious to see how my maternity style changes since you obviously have to cover up more to stay warm.

When figuring out your own maternity style, it’s important to find out what styles make you feel confident and are comfortable. Although it is such an exciting time, it is not always easy seeing your body change. I still remember when I first started showing that I’d try on old clothes and look in the mirror and would feel discouraged. I had to snap out of that real quick. I had to realize that although my body was changing rapidly, it was for the best reason in the world.

Here are some tips for anyone trying to style their bump with non-maternity items!:

  • Make sure you either try items on in store or are shopping from online stores that have free returns!
  • Figure out what styles you like the most. I personally like tighter items that show the bump, but some women like looser pieces! It’s totally up to you!
  • If you are in between sizes, go up one size because you are only going to get bigger for a while!
